Chintemani Wave Motif

This is the first motif design of our collection. This historical motif was first brought to Constantinople (Istanbul) by Sultan Selim in 1514. The meaning of this motif in the Turkish decorative arts reflects the admiration felt for powerful animals. In the Chintemani motif designs used in the Ottoman Palaces, the three dots symbolize power, dynasty and abundance. The two horizontal lines in the design are interpreted as tiger hides, lightings, clouds or dragons and the three dots in the design have been known to be named as sun disk, leopard spots, moon, ball and sacred pearl. This motif can be found in many forms of design throughout the world, from fabrics and household products to architecture.

The Chinese and Japanese referred to the Chintemani figure as "tama" which was believed to symbolize power and fertility. They people of the Far East also believed that the three dots symbolize the three spiritual traits of Buddha.

Using this classic motif, our artisans have created our vision called the Chintemani Wave motif using more movement and fluidity in the design. The Chintemani dots and lines have been given a wavy effect on the appearance, gaining an aspect of consistency with the product and its surroundings of water.

Chintemani Wave Motif 2

This motif is the same motif design as the original Chintemani Wave motif. In this motif, the artisan uses more Padauk inlay in the two horizontal lines of the design. The red wood is accentuated with the brass bezel setting which is wrapped flush around the edges of the material as done with the mother-of-pearl.
